What is a New Born Care Specialist ( Incorrectly known as a Baby Nurse)?
A newborn care specialist (NCS) is often referred to as a "baby nurse." A baby nurse is a non-medically trained individual who will come to your home and help you with your newborn baby. When needed our Newborn care specialist can assist your family for as little as two weeks- up to several months. Booking a Newborn Care Specialist (AKA Baby Nurse)
We recommend you start your search for a baby nurse as early as the beginning of your 3rd trimester. There are Baby nurses that are booked as early as six months in advance. We would be happy to help with any last minute placements if your baby is on the way or already home.
When considering the length of time you'd like a baby nurse, we recommend at least 2 weeks of care. However, some families average 6 weeks, while others may have an infant specialist for close to 1 year. When creating a contract with the baby nurse, you can specify a range of time that you would like them. You can always extend your time as long as the baby nurse has not been booked to help another family. It's usually important to give 2 weeks notice if you'd like to extend your baby nurse's time.
Baby Nurse Screening Process
All of our baby nurses meet with the owner of the company in person. They are asked detailed questions regarding their knowledge about child development, infant safety issues, scheduling, and breastfeeding. They must pass a nationwide criminal background check that includes social security verification. We call their personal and professional references. All of our baby nurses must have current CPR and a minimum of 3 years prior experience with infants. They also have various certifications and attend training courses that cover different aspects of newborn care.
What are the Baby Nurse Pay and accomodations
How is the baby nurse paid?
The family is responsible for paying the baby nurse directly at the end of each week based on a per day rate or hourly rate agree in the contract. Our baby nurses range base on about 20 hour days. Their average daily rate after taxes is usually between:

$300.00-$500.00 for Singleton $20-30/hr

$450.00-$700.00 for Twins $28-40/hr

This rates can increase if the provider is a an actual licensed medical professional.
Do I need to pay taxes on my baby nurse?

What accommodations are required for the baby nurse?
For 24-hour care the baby nurse will sleep when the baby is sleeping. Please provide a comfortable couch or bed for the baby nurse. It is your choice to have the baby nurse sleep in the room with the baby or in a separate living space with a baby monitor. For overnight shifts you can request the baby nurse to stay in the baby’s room or you can choose to provide the baby nurse with a separate living space with a baby monitor where she can read, work on the computer, or watch TV after her other duties are finished and the baby is sleeping.
Am I required to provide the baby nurse with meals?
With 24-hour care it is required to provide the baby nurse with food. For overnight care, it is not required, but if you would like, you can have snacks and drinks available for the baby nurse/night nurse.
Do I need to pay for my baby nurse’s travel expenses?
The client is monetarily responsible for round trip transportation for the Baby Nurse if she is coming from another state or town. Some Baby Nurses will also travel to your home by taxi, metro, or ferry and will request reimbursement for these fares.
When I’m using 24-hour care when does the baby nurse sleep?
The baby nurse will sleep when the baby is sleeping. She will also be allowed a 4-5 hour break per each 24-hour period in which she can decide to sleep or leave the premises.
